(TUBAC, AZ)— The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) proudly announced John Pandol, Director of Special Projects for Pandol Brothers, as the recipient of its 2026 Member of the Year Award. Members vote each fall for their Member of the Year, and the award is announced during the association’s Annual Membership Meeting, held this year at the Tubac Golf Resort & Spa in Tubac, Arizona.
The FPAA Member of the Year Award is one of the association’s highest honors, recognizing individuals whose leadership, service, and commitment have made a lasting impact on FPAA and the broader fresh produce industry.
“In the produce business, most people deliver. It’s the job. But some people REALLY, REALLY deliver,” said FPAA President Lance Jungmeyer during the award presentation, recognizing Pandol’s exceptional dedication to the Association and its members.
A longtime member of the FPAA Board of Directors and Chairman of the Association’s Grape Division for more than 16 years, Pandol has been a consistent and influential voice within the association. Known for his active participation, practical insights, and willingness to take on challenges, he has played an important role in advancing FPAA’s advocacy efforts and strengthening its industry relationships.
Pandol’s contributions to FPAA extend across North America, from Mexico and Arizona to California, New York, and Washington, D.C. A dedicated advocate for the fresh produce industry, he regularly participates in meetings with policymakers, industry organizations, and stakeholders, bringing valuable perspectives on international trade, agricultural policy, customs, logistics, and the challenges facing the produce supply chain.
Over the past year, Pandol participated in a panel addressing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), authored an opinion piece highlighting the importance of the trade agreement, and joined FPAA’s annual Congressional fly-in. As a member of the FPAA Trade Task Force, he also traveled to Washington, D.C., for additional Congressional meetings advocating for relief from outdated government inspection requirements that contribute to industry losses.
His commitment to these efforts reflects a willingness to go beyond traditional board responsibilities, dedicating his time and expertise to issues affecting the entire fresh produce industry. His extensive involvement with other produce associations also provides FPAA with valuable insights into emerging industry trends, trade barriers, tariffs, and developments in agricultural policy.
Beyond his advocacy work, Pandol has built a distinguished career in international produce marketing and business development. A 1982 graduate of the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business, where he studied International Marketing, he continued his agricultural studies at Universidad Católica de Chile. At Pandol Brothers, he works closely with growers, supermarket and wholesale customers, and industry partners, drawing on decades of relationships and experience in international produce markets.
A familiar voice in trade publications and national media, Pandol has developed strong relationships with reporters and is frequently sought out for his perspectives on the produce industry. He is also known for his frequent supermarket visits, where he documents innovative retail displays and emerging merchandising trends, bringing firsthand market observations back to industry discussions.
“Some people want to know where their food comes from; far fewer ask how it gets there. Let’s change that,” Pandol has said, reflecting his commitment to increasing awareness of the people, processes, and infrastructure that make the fresh produce supply chain possible.
Within FPAA, Pandol’s enthusiasm extends well beyond government relations. An early and dedicated supporter of the Southwest International Produce Expo (SWIPE), he has been a tireless promoter of the event, regularly encouraging participation and helping expand its reach throughout the industry. His commitment to FPAA is evident in his consistent presence at association meetings, his support for fellow board members, and his willingness to share ideas and insights with staff and leadership.
“He has been a constant sounding board for myself and the staff, and a cheerleader for his peers on the board,” Jungmeyer said, reflecting on Pandol’s longstanding contributions to the Association.
Through his leadership, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to FPAA, Pandol exemplifies the dedication and service represented by the Member of the Year Award. His ability to connect people, share knowledge, and advocate for the industry’s interests continues to strengthen the Association and the broader fresh produce community.
The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas congratulates John Pandol on this well-deserved recognition and thanks him for his continued service and commitment to the industry.
